Halloween Move-athon
Benefiting Columbia University Pediatric Orthopaedic Research Raises More Than $10,000
Despite the snowy weather, little witches, superheroes and princesses took over the NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital’s Wintergarden on Saturday, Oct. 29 for the 3rd Annual Halloween Move-athon. The "spooktacular" event kept more than 140 kids and their parents moving with carnival games, Halloween craft making, face painting, dancing, basketball, yoga, a magic show and a special visit by FDNY’s real superheroes.
Six young fundraisers took on the extra challenge of collecting donations from sponsors, earning them exciting prizes such as a Wii gaming system. Additional fundraising was provided via a bake sale with delectable goodies.
Medical students, staff and even former patients volunteered their time to help make this the most successful Move-athon on record.
The Halloween Move-athon helped raise more than $10,000 for Columbia University Pediatric Orthopaedic Research. While many children are affected with orthopedic conditions due to injuries or accidents, a large percentage are born with musculoskeletal disorders that affect their growth, development and ability to thrive in their daily lives, such as cerebral palsy, scoliosis and spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). All donations from the Halloween Move-athon will go directly toward improving the quality of life for kids with musculoskeletal disorders by finding new ways to reduce their pain and improve their ability to move.
